Montgomery Walking Festival 2025


Saturday 4th and Sunday 5th October 2025

Our 2025 Walking Festival weekend features short, medium and long walks in and around our lovely Montgomery town and local countryside. Walks range from a 2 miles, easy stroll on our Montgomery Heritage Walk – taking in our towns landmark buildings, locations and our castle with panoramic views out across our civil war battleground fields – to longer, more Challenging, 21 and 11 mile walks for the hardened walkers amongst you.


All the walks at the Festival are guided, and are FREE (except for bus fares for those walks that use a service bus to reach the starting point). However, spaces are limited, so please reserve your places via the link below each walk.


PLEASE NOTE: Unfortunately.. Dogs cannot accompany walkers on our walks as paths cross farmers fields with roaming, grazing sheep, cattle and livestock.

Saturday 4th October Walks…

CHALLENGE WALK

21 miles – Strenuous going

Start 07:30 at Maldwyn Way car park

As usual this a challenge walk due to the distance and hilly terrain encountered but with no scrambling involved. Again it is a different route to any before and involves stupendous views. From Montgomery we follow Offa’s Dyke Path up onto the Kerry Ridgeway and then circle round the hills and vales to enjoy very varied topography en-route back to Montgomery

Leighton Woods and Offa’s Dyke Path

9 miles – Moderate going

Start 09:00 at Maldwyn Way car park. Service bus to Leighton.

A walk up through the impressive Leighton woods to Offa’s Dyke path and then follow that National Trail back to Montgomery enjoying the superb views along the way.

Hilly Sheep Pastures South of Montgomery

8 miles – Moderate with some hills

Start 10:00 at Maldwyn Way car park.
Service bus to Sarn.

This walk enables you to appreciate the beautiful verdant green hills with the obligatory superb views and you don’t have to go round in a circle!

Montgomery and surrounding countryside

5.5 miles – Easy going

Start 10:30 at Maldwyn Way car park.

Explore the countryside close to Montgomery with an almost flat walk, which however has lovely views of the hills all around.

Sunday 5th October Walks…

Cefn-y-Coed Hills

11 miles – Strenuous/Moderate with some hills

Start 10:00 at Maldwyn Way car park

We always have a walk around the Cefn-y-Coed Hills west of Montgomery and it is always a firm favourite and last year sold out in a day! This year we have found still more different paths to include so turn up again!

Montgomery Town Hill and the Vale

7 miles – Moderate going with hills

Start 10:15 at Maldwyn Way car park.

Experience the stupendous 360 degree distant views from Montgomery Town Hill – including out to Clee Hill in the East and Cadair Idris in Snowdonia to the West – followed by a very varied walk back to Montgomery via low lying hills and the Vale of Montgomery and Lymore Park.

Mini Cefn-y-Coed Hills

4 miles – Moderate with hills

Start 10:30 at Maldwyn Way car park

You can get a taster of the Cefn-y-Coed Hills on this relatively short walk that does however involve some hills. You will be delighted at the views and varied scenery involved.

2 miles – Easy going
